A Unique Afternoon Of Chamber Music
Homer: Sunday, September 16, at 3 pm, the Center for the Arts in Homer, NY once again hosts an outstanding musical experience. The Crosswinds Trio: Gary Ross on the trumpet, Lawrence Kursar on the horn, and Michael Toth on the piano, draw on their diverse musical backgrounds and experiences from the orchestral stage, jazz club, and recital hall to create a refreshing sound.
Their expressive and inspiring playing, coupled with diverse programming infused with humor, has led to rave reviews and standing ovations. With over 200 innovative arrangements for this distinct combination of trumpet, horn, and piano, Mr. Ross, Mr. Toth and Mr. Kursar have established a previously unexplored musical genre. The Trio's programs include "Winds across Time," an appealing program of different styles and genres from classical to jazz and everything in between; "Genesis," an exciting program of music establishing the high brass trio as a serious new sound in chamber music; and "Winds across America," a diverse and engaging program of American music.
Members of Crosswinds Trio have toured extensively as chamber music artists in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Highlighted credits of the artists include Michael Toth's debut at age 14 at Carnegie Recital Hall, Lawrence Kursar's direction as stage conductor of the Bolshoi Ballet, and Gary Ross's performances with such celebrities as Liberace, Bobby Vinton, and Barry White.
Beginning his training at the age of 7 with Marjorie Haimbach, Michael Toth made his concert debut when he was 14 at Carnegie Recital Hall. Having studied with Frank Glazer and Artur Balsum at the Eastman School of Music, he has gone on to perform both in the United States and abroad as soloist and accompanist. Michael is a founding member of Satori, a non-profit chamber music organization, and has performed an extensive list of the major chamber music repertoire. With experience performing on all types of keyboards, Toth is one of the most versatile pianists available today. Currently, he is the pianist in residence with the Allentown Symphony.
Lawrence Kursar is widely acclaimed as performer, conductor and arranger. As a founding member of Band du Soleil and Crosswinds Trio, he has performed internationally. His writing has established the high brass trio as a viable chamber music ensemble. He performs regularly with the Trenton Civic Opera Orchestra, Allentown Symphony, Garden State Wind Quintet, and Main Street Brass Quintet and is the Music Director and Conductor of the Hunterdon Symphony Orchestra, in such prestigious venues as the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the Wang Center in Boston where he conducted a stage orchestra for the Bolshoi Ballet.
Gary Ross, their trumpeter, is at home on the concert stage and at jazz venues and has a wide array of credits to his name. His dazzling playing of Baroque masterpieces and the mellow sound of his jazz improvisations have won him acclaim from audiences young and old. Ross performed the Bach "Brandenburg Concerto #2" and the Haydn "Trumpet Concerto" with the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the Allentown Symphony, Trenton Symphony, and the Main Street Brass Quintet. On the show stage, he has performed with such celebrities as Liberace, Bobby Vinton, and Barry White.

General Admission tickets are $12 and Senior tickets are $10 (membership discounts apply). Admission for children under 12 is free. Balcony seating for this performance is free for students with valid student IDs. Please present your ID when you attend the performance to insure your free admittance.
